A customer is one email address at one store. An address becomes a customer the first time it places an order, or when you add it yourself. Find them under Audience, then Customers. A customer’s page shows their orders, what they have spent, their balance and its history, and whether they are an affiliate.

Tags

A customer’s tags are badges beside their name, on the list and on their page. Two are Shoply’s, put on and taken off by themselves as orders and disputes come in; the rest are yours. Both kinds are on the Tags tab of Customers. Each has a switch: off, it is on nobody. Your own tags have a name and one of five colours, and you put them on by hand: Edit Tags on a customer’s page or in a row’s menu on the list. A store has up to 50 of its own. Deleting one takes it off everybody. Show on the list narrows it to one tag, Win-Back can be narrowed to the customers wearing one, and so can a coupon. Deleting a tag leaves the coupons only for it for nobody, and Delete Tag says how many.

The customer panel

Every store has a panel for its buyers at your-store.myshoply.gg/customer-panel. A buyer signs in with a code sent to the email they bought with, and reads their own orders and what was delivered. Where Support Tickets are on, they ask you about an order there and read your replies. Its Downloads & Setup page has a card for each paid order, the newest open. Opened, a card has your download buttons and the files that order hands over, the instructions its products sent, and your notes for every order at its foot. Where you have set a link under Settings, Links, Setup Guide, it is a button at the head of the page. The panel is always at the store’s myshoply.gg address, also for a store with a domain of its own.

Store balance

A customer has a balance at your store, in the store’s currency, which they can spend at checkout. A balance gets there four ways:
  • You add to it, on the customer’s page.
  • You refund an order as store credit.
  • An affiliate moves commission to it, where your affiliate programme allows that.
  • Rewarble vouchers paid more than an order, or toward an order paid another way or never paid (Rewarble).
To spend a balance, the buyer proves the email is theirs with a code sent to it. Whether the checkout offers paying with balance at all is a switch under Payment Methods. Adding to a balance is money leaving your store without a payment, so the store’s owner is told by email each time it is done in the dashboard.

Blacklisting a customer

Blacklist Customer on a customer’s page stops them buying: their email, and if you choose the IP addresses their orders came from. See fraud protection. A customer any rule refuses shows Blacklisted, whether the rule is on their email, on an address their orders came from, or on their email’s domain. Unblacklist Customer takes off the rules made for them and their email’s, and the rules on their addresses that were added by hand unless you switch that off. A rule that covers other buyers too, such as an email domain or an IP range, stays: the dialog names it, and you change it on the Blacklist.

Exporting customers

Export CSV on Customers makes a spreadsheet of them, starting from the list’s filters: when they were first seen, everyone, only affiliates, only subscribers or only one tag, and the order. Each row is a customer: their email, when they were first seen, the orders they paid for and what they spent, their first and last paid order, their store balance, their affiliate code and balance where they have one, their tags, and whether they are subscribed to your emails. Every customer that matches is in the file, and a store can export 30 files every 10 minutes with its other exports.

With the API

See Customers and Export customers. Changing a balance is a permission of its own, and should be sent with an Idempotency-Key. So is changing tags, Change Tags: the store’s own, VIP and Disputed Before, and which customers wear them (List customer tags). The customer.tagged and customer.untagged webhook events say when a tag goes on or comes off.
