# Upselling

> What a buyer is offered beside what they chose: extras with a product, offers in the cart and at checkout, and what is bought together

Upselling is under **Catalogue**, then **Upselling**. Every upsell is in one list, each said as a sentence ("Priority Setup, a tick on Pro License, for \$4.99") with where the buyer sees it under it, and **Enabled** or **Disabled**. **Show** narrows the list to one place. The figures over the list cover the period you pick beside **Add Upsell**.

## Adding one

**Add Upsell** asks what you want to offer, as five cards:

| | |
| - | - |
| **An Extra with a Product** | A tick on the product's page, like Priority Setup. |
| **Something in the Cart** | Another product, suggested under what the buyer chose. |
| **A Better Version** | Swap what is in the cart for an upgrade. |
| **A Last Offer at Checkout** | One box under the order, with **Add**. |
| **Bought Together** | Products shown under another, to add in one press. |

**Continue** opens a short form for the one you picked, with a drawing of what the buyer sees under it that changes as you fill it in. What you rarely need is under **More Options**, whose closed line says what it is set to. Pressing an upsell in the list opens its form.

## An extra with a product

| | |
| - | - |
| **What They Get** | One of your products, delivered as it always is. Or, with **Sell a plain extra**, a name of your own, with a **Message After Payment** that is on the buyer's receipt and order page. |
| **On the Page Of** | Products, or whole categories, so that a product you add to one later has it too. |
| **Price** | What it adds to the order. |
| **The Box Starts** | **Unticked**, for the buyer to tick. **Ticked**, which they can untick. **Always In**, which is in every order at its price. Buyers read "Included" in place of a price only where it costs nothing. |

Under **More Options**: **Charged** (**Once per Order**, or **For Each Item** of the product it is beside), a plain extra's **Cost Per Unit** for your profit in [Finance](/guides/finance.md), which buyers never see, the words over it, and when it runs.

Each extra becomes a line of the order of its own, marked with the line it was ticked beside. One line takes up to 10.

## Something in the cart, and a better version

Under the cart's lines, the store offers up to three things at once.

| | |
| - | - |
| **What They Get** | The product offered. A taken offer is a line of one. |
| **Show It When** | A product is in the cart, a product from a category is, or the cart reaches an amount. |
| **When the Cart Has** and **Swap It For** | A better version's two halves: what it is offered on, and what the buyer gets in its place. Taken, it replaces that line, every item of it. |
| **Discount** | **None**, which a new one starts on, **Percent Off** or **Amount Off**, on that order only. An offer needs no discount to be shown. |

Left empty, the words over an offer are "Goes well with it" or "Upgrade and save", in the buyer's language. If what an offer asked for leaves the cart, the product it added stays there at its own price.

## A last offer at checkout

One offer, in a box under the order's items on Shoply's checkout, with **Add**, and in the [Checkout Kit](/guides/checkout-kit.md)'s `summary` piece. On a phone it is under the folded order, where it is seen as the page opens. It is not in the [embed](/guides/embeds.md), which sells the one product it was opened on. It asks what a cart offer asks, and its **More Options** has two switches of its own, since the checkout is the one place that knows who is buying:

| | |
| - | - |
| **First Orders Only** | Offered only to a buyer who has never paid at your store. |
| **Hide When Already Bought** | Not offered to a buyer who has bought it before. |

Both are off for a new offer.

Left empty, its words are "Add to Your Order", in the buyer's language.

## Bought together

Under **Buy now** on a product's page, up to four products a buyer can add with one press, each at its own price, with no discount. Yours come first: pick the **Product to Show**, and the products it is shown **On the Page Of**.

**Suggest Products From Past Orders**, over the list, fills the rest with the products your paid orders of the last 180 days show are most often bought with that product. It is on until you switch it off.

## When an upsell runs

Each form but Bought Together's has **Starts** (**Now**, or **At a Set Time**) and **Ends** (**Never**, or **At a Set Time**) under **More Options**. An upsell's menu has **Turn Off**, which keeps it for later. Where **Show** narrows the list to extras, checkout offers or bought together, **Sort** sets which comes first.

## The figures

| | |
| - | - |
| **Upsell Revenue** | What the offers sold on paid orders, at the price they were sold for. |
| **Orders With an Upsell** | Paid orders that had at least one. |
| **Times Shown** | How often a storefront or the checkout showed one. A robot's look is not counted. |
| **Taken** | Of the times shown, the share that went into a paid order. |

Each row has its own Taken and Revenue. A store holds up to 200 upsells of every kind together, and each names up to 100 products and categories.

## On your storefront

Every theme draws extras, the cart's offers and bought together. A storefront whose code you have changed in the code studio keeps its own files: it shows none of these until its files do. An extra that is **Always In** is in the order whatever the storefront shows, and the checkout lists it.

On a site of your own, the [storefront SDK](/sdk/overview.md) answers a product's extras and what is bought together with it, and has calls for the cart's offers. The [embed](/guides/embeds.md) offers a product's extras in a box under it, and the [Checkout Kit](/guides/checkout-kit.md#what-it-sells) takes what the buyer chose on your page.
