# Analytics

> Who is on your store now, where visits come from, and which of them bought

Analytics is under **Online Store**. It has two sides: **Live View**, which is the last few minutes, and **Reports**, which is any stretch of days you pick.

## Live view

A globe with a dot for every place somebody is looking at your store from. The dot grows with the number of people there.

| | |
| - | - |
| **Visitors Now** | Visits that were active in the last ten minutes. The same figure is on your dashboard's home page. |
| **Browsing**, **Active Carts**, **Checking Out**, **Purchased** | Those same ten minutes, by how far each visitor has got. |
| **Sessions Today**, **Orders Today**, **Sales Today** | The day so far. |

A line is drawn from your store to a place while something arrives there, and is gone when it lands. White is a visitor. Amber is an order nobody has paid yet, which exists from the moment a checkout is opened. Mint is a paid order. An order you watch from Buy to paid is two lines, amber and then mint.

## Reports

| | |
| - | - |
| **Sessions** | Visits. One person looking at five pages in a sitting is one session. |
| **Page Views** | Pages looked at. |
| **Bounce Rate** | Visits that looked at one page and left. |
| **Bought** | Of the visits, how many led to a sale. |

Under the figures: **Sessions over Time**, **Where They Came From**, **Where They Are** and **What They Use**.

### Where they came from

Every visit is filed under one channel.

| Channel | What puts a visit there |
| - | - |
| **Search** | A search engine, or an assistant such as ChatGPT, Perplexity or Copilot. |
| **Social** | A social network. |
| **Email** | A link in an email: one opened from a webmail site, or one tagged as email. |
| **Paid** | An ad: a link tagged as one, or one that carries an ad network's click ID. |
| **Referral** | Any other website. |
| **Direct** | No website at all: a typed address, a bookmark, an app that does not say. |

A **campaign** is a link you tagged with `utm_campaign`, `utm_source` and `utm_medium`, all three together. Visits through it are listed with what they went on to buy.

A store with affiliates gets an **Affiliates** list as well: clicks on each link, and the orders it led to. A visit through an affiliate's link is still filed under the channel it arrived by.

## Which visit a sale belongs to

An order remembers the visitor who placed it. The sale is given to the **last visit that visitor began before the order**, within 30 days.

An order with no visit is given to nothing. That is an order you made by hand, an invoice, or a sale on a page of your own that does not count visits. It is in every total that counts sales and in none that says where sales came from. **Bought** is sales that came from a visit, over visits, so it never counts those.

An order's own page says the same under **Came From**: the channel, the website or search engine, the campaign's tags and the page the visitor landed on.

## A site of your own

A page of yours is a visit when it loads `shoply.js` and starts it. An order made there through the [embed](/guides/embeds.md) or the [Checkout Kit](/guides/checkout-kit.md) is then filed under that visit. See [counting visits](/sdk/overview.md#counting-visits).

## What is not counted

A visit by something that calls itself a bot is not kept. A preview of your store in the builder or the dashboard counts nothing either.
